Dr. Vlietstra and his wife Liz have been married for 40+ years. They have 2 adult children:  Andrew - a financial analyst; and Betsy - a psychotherapist, and her husband Scott - a psychotherapist and additions counselor.  Sophie is Dr. Bob's truck dog.  Sassy & Lacy are the resident cats.

Dr. Vlietstra works within the Production Medicine Section (dairy reproduction focus) at WMVS and is an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Bob serves as the veterinarian advisor to the Gulu Uganda Country Dairy project in East Africa and is a partner with Dr. Tonny Kidega in the Northern Uganda Veterinary Service practice in Gulu, Uganda, Africa.
